Purpose/Mission
Founded in 1981, the purpose of West Los Angeles Baptist
School is to provide a program of education which upholds
a standard of scholastic excellence, furnishes instruction
in the Christian faith and principles laid down in the
Word of God, and to prepare pupils to take their places
in the home, in the church and in their country.
West Los Angeles Baptist School exists to provide a
Christ-centered, quality education that equips students
to pursue excellence in all aspects of life and to engage
an ever-changing world with unchanging truth. From the Principal and Pastor
Thank you for your interest in West Los Angeles Baptist
School. We are a non-profit ministry of the First Baptist
Church of West Los Angeles driven by the calling to
serve God and our community. Since the Westside is so
diverse, we enthusiastically welcome students from a
variety of religious, cultural, ethnic, and economic
backgrounds who desire to know more about Christ and
are dedicated to a high standard of social and academic
achievement.
WLAB is focused on building the character and shaping
the minds of young people who pass through our doors.
We accomplish this, in part, by keeping our class sizes
small so we can provide individualized attention. We
also staff a dedicated and highly-qualified Christian
faculty that is committed to providing an excellent
education to students.
While we are a small school, we offer a rich selection
of curricular and extra-curricular activities. From
clubs to sports to school trips, WLAB provides ample
opportunities for students to grow. If there is even
one student interested in an activity, we will do our
best to provide it.
We recognize the importance of choosing the right school
to meet the needs of your son or daughter. We think
once you get to know us, you will agree that WLAB is
the best kept secret on the Westside. We look forward
to the opportunity to partner with caring families such
as yours.
Sincerely,
Nancy Olah, Principal

Educational Philosophy
West Los Angeles Baptist School exists to provide a Christ-centered,
quality education that equips students to pursue excellence
in all aspects of life and to engage an ever changing
world with unchanging Truth. This mission flows from our
understanding of the biblical injunction for parents to
“Train up a child in the way he should go...”
(Proverbs 22:6). WLAB School assists families in following
this mandate by applying these principles:
1. We believe that God created the universe and
that all truth emanates from Him. Jesus Christ is
central to all knowledge and wisdom- spiritual, moral,
academic, personal, and social. The Scriptures remind
us that, “...for in Him are hid all the treasures
of wisdom and knowledge.” (Colossians 2:3)
2. We believe the Bible is the Word of God. We believe
the Bible to be wholly true, accurate, and trustworthy,
and is the supreme and final authority in all matters
to which it speaks, whether ethical, moral, behavioral,
doctrinal, historical, geographic, or scientific.
A biblical world view encompasses all aspects of a
proper education. “...in Him we live and move
and have our being.” (Acts 17:28)
3. We believe that man was created in God’s
image. He was made to glorify God, to magnify His
greatness and reflect His goodness, truth, wisdom,
love, and to put God’s justice on display in
his life. Sadly none of us have lived for the very
purpose for which we were created. The Bible calls
this failure sin. Thankfully, God has provided a remedy
for sin. For this reason we believe in encouraging
each student to discover the purpose for which he
was created, to find forgiveness of sin, and to develop
a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. (Romans
3:23, John 3:16)
4. We believe education to be the responsibility
of parents. “...to bring up their children in
the fear and admonition of the Lord.” (Ephesians
6:4) The role of WLAB School is to support and reinforce
parents’ efforts to educate their children not
to supplant or replace them.
5. We believe WLAB School, working in concert with
the church and home, should be a training ground for
young people. All our students must be receptive to
Christian teaching, have a genuine desire to mature
as responsible, young adults, and should be prepared
to live a lifestyle that is a proclamation of the
Lordship of Jesus Christ. “...that in all things
He might have a preeminence.” (Colossians 1:18)
6. We believe in striving for excellence in all
areas of endeavor- whether academic, athletic, moral,
social, or personal. We are unwilling to accept mediocrity
in any aspect of life. We seek to do so “So
that you may approve the things that are excellent,
in order to be sincere and blameless until the day
of Christ.” (Philippians 1:10)
